BOUNCERS to Open 4/17 at The Public House Theatre

At the gates of our favorite bars and nightclubs are the Sentinels who stand between ourselves and utter chaos. But what goes on in the minds and nights of those imposing guards that give their lives to save us from ourselves? John Godber's high-octane hit "Bouncers" comes to The Public House Theatre, with four frenetic actors playing the quartet of doormen, as well as the dozens of denizens of the debauched Midnight Circus.

In a whirlwind of drinking, fighting and hedonic celebration, they take us from the front door to back alleys of the infamous Mr. Cinder's Nightclub, with the inebriated human experience throbbing beneath the flashing lights and thumping music. Directed by Chris Geiger and starring Paige Fodor, Ricky Glore, Elaine Small and Lorenzo Toia,

"Bouncers" opens on Thursday, April 17th and runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8pm at The Public House Theatre. April 17th-May 17th at 8pm. Runtime: 90 min., 10 min. Intermission. Tickets: $15

About "Bouncers": "An instant hit" in 1977, John Godber's "Bouncers" took the UK by storm in its first production, and has continued to thrill audiences with its high-energy, break-neck romps inside a sordid nightclub. Every single week since its inception, "Bouncers" has been playing somewhere in the world, and The Public House Theatre is proud to join in the tradition. (In fact, John Godber is the third most frequently produced English playwright, right after William Shakespeare and Alan Ayckbourn, respectively.)

"Bouncers" stands as a companion and counterpoint to TPHT's centerpiece, the long-running "Bye Bye Liver." The import offers not only a fun night out with characterizations that allow us to laugh at ourselves and our friends, but a darker social commentary that delves into the emptiness that lurks as an inherent risk of living life for the parties.

Normally cast with four men, director Chris Geiger has shaken things up and assigned the roles to two men and two women, offering a possibly different perspective on the experiences of two of the Bouncers.

The Public House Theatre is located at 3914 N. Clark Street (at Byron Street), Chicago, IL 60613. For more information, visit For tickets, call: 800.650.6449. Tickets may also be purchased at the door.
