Queen City Theatre Company announces auditions for the psychological thriller "Rope" to be held on Tuesday June 29th from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm and Wednesday June 30th from 6:30 pm to 9:00 pm. "Rope" was written by PatRick Hamilton and brought to the screen in 1948 by Alfred Hitchcock. "Rope" has been successfully revived twice on the London stage in 1992 and most recently in 2009, and will now be receiving its Charlotte and regional debut with this production.

Queen City Theatre Company's production of "Rope" will be directed by Glenn T. Griffin, and will take place from August 19th thru September 4th. The cast consists of 5 men and 2 women. Due to the complex and difficult nature of the three male leads, (Wyndham Brandon, Charles Granillo, and Rupert Cadell) these roles will be compensated.

"Rope" tells the complex story of Wyndham Brandon and Charles Granillo, two brilliant young men who decided to murder their Oxford classmate, Ronald Kentley, as an intellectual exercise; they want to prove their superiority by committing the "perfect murder". After hiding the body in a large antique wooden chest, Brandon and Charles host a dinner party at their apartment, the guests begin to arrive. The guests, unaware of what has happened, include the victim's father Sir Johnstone Kentley, and aunt Mrs. Debenham. Also there is his girlfriend, Leila Arden and her former lover Kenneth Raglan . In a subtle move, Brandon uses the chest containing the body as a buffet for the food.

CAST BREAKDOWN

Wyndham Brandon - Age: 20's. An athletic build. Speaks in a rich, competent and really easy voice. Wealthy, almost paternalistic, thanks to an instinctive knowledge of his own good health, good looks, success and natural calm. Sometimes prone to priggishness and self-approbation, and is the one reason why one cannot altogether like him.

Charles Granillo - Age: 20's. Slim, more like a lithe dancer. Enormously courteous. Shows nervousness, guilt and fear as play progresses. There is always the undercurrent that there is a homosexual relationship going on between Charles and Brandon.

Kenneth Raglan - Age: 20's. Callow, simple, shy, foolish and good; not a thinker. Striving for sophistication.

Leila Arden - Age: 20's. Young, good-looking. Leila has spirit and isn't afraid to show it. She is dating Ronald Kentley.

Sir Johnstone Kentley - Age: 50's . At all times he is a gentleman. Sir Kentley was born into wealth and a place of authority, and has a great love for his son.

Mrs. Debenham - Age: late 40's-50's. Sister of Sir Johnstone Kentley. She is witty, goes to the movies often, and interested in different ideas and thoughts.

Rupert Cadell - Age: 29-35. Philosopher/poet. Lame, carrying an exquisite walking stick. Rupert's ideas may be completely unorthodox, but he isn't afraid to express them.

All characters will be using proper English accents. The actors who are interested in playing either Wyndham Brandon or Charles Granillo should be very comfortable with their own bodies and not be afraid to be wearing underwear on stage. Also, both actors will begin the play in a very homo-erotic manner, so they should not be afraid of male/male kissing or touching.
