PPT to Offer Youth Theatre Technical Workshops, 1/25

Piedmont Players Theatre (PPT) announces YOUTH THEATRE SET DESIGN & STAGE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOPS set for Saturday, January 25, 2014. Stage Management: 9am-11am Set Design: 11:30am-1:30pm. STAGE MANAGEMENT WORKSHOP (Instructor: Tiffany White): Backstage of any production, there is another team at work and the Stage Manager is the Quarterback. This person is in charge of making sure that everyone else does his or her job. The stage manager makes sure the actors get to the theater on time, calls all the cues for entrances, exits, lights, sound, etc., and is generally in charge of what happens on the stage and in the backstage area. Including rehearsals, as well as production, the Stage Manager for each show has more responsibility than any other person involved. This workshop will teach the students how to run a show from curtain up to lights out and everything in between. Come learn what it takes to bring a show to the stage!

SET DESIGN WORKSHOP (Instructor: Allen Jones): Does your child love the theatre but does not want to perform? Did you realize that every set you see at a PPT show is built from scratch right here in our shop? In this workshop the students will learn to help design and build a production's sets and lights. Students will learn from one of the talented artists behind the sets for PPT's most Popular Productions. They will learn how to safely use hand and power tools, how to hang and focus theatrical lights, and how to work on a crew. Come experience building a production from scratch!

Allen Jones has been teaching PPT's technical summer theatre camp for the past 4 seasons. He holds a BFA in Technical Theatre from Catawba College. In addition to being our resident tech instructor, he is also works in our backstage scene shop and has helped create the amazing sets of some of our most Popular Productions from Grease to The Little Mermaid.

Tiffany White is one of PPT's most experienced stage managers. She has managed backstage at some of our biggest hits including The Color Purple, To Kill a Mockingbird, Leap of Faith and The 39 Steps. Whether a cast of 4 or a cast of 40, no one knows better than Tiffany what it takes to keep a show running smoothly.
