Once Upon a Time... there was composer who took some fairy tales and turned them upside down and out came Into the Woods. The most enchanting retelling of the stories of The Brothers Grimm ever to hit the Broadway stage, Into the Woods lets the audience see Little Red, The Baker and his wife, Cinderella and Jack as only Stephen Sondheim can imagine them in his signature musical style. And stirring this pot of evocative storytelling is a Witch only Sondheim could create. One part wicked and one part mother. Into the Woods explores the relationships of parents, kids and the world around them in way both unique and compelling. Join us in the woods this summer for a truly magical treat.

A Note from the Artistic Director of Summer Theatre

My, doesn't time fly when you're having fun? The first show of Summer Theatre 2010 is history and the curtain rises this week on our second show of the season - Sondheim's "Into the Woods." This is only the second time Summer Theatre has produced the show but the first time we have presented it in the beautiful Dale F. Halton Theater.

The Halton gives us so many more exciting options scenically than when we enjoyed in our years in Pease Auditorium. "Into the Woods" gives us the chance to explore these opportunities to the fullest. Scenic Designer Robert Croghan has done a masterful job in translating Sondheim's fairy tale world onto the Halton stage. His sets and costumes will be a treat for the senses.

Most of all though, it is the music and lyrics that make a Sondheim show come alive. Music Director Drina Keen and her assistant Amy Boger Morris have been working hard with our exceptional cast to capture all the nuances of this Sondheim score. From the infectious "Into the Woods" theme to the haunting "Last Midnight," the music of "Into the Woods" will have the audience enthralled from the first note.

We look forward to seeing you and your friends in the audience for out next production of Summer Theatre 2010.
