Adam Trent "The Illusionist"

Adam, thank you for this opportunity to interview you. Where are you from?

Adam Trent: I grew up in Boulder, Colorado. I currently reside in Los Angeles, California.

How long have you lived in Los Angeles?

Adam Trent: For about 10 years now. I attended college at Loyola Maramount University and then stayed after graduation.

You also lived in Paris, right?

Adam Trent: Yes, I lived there for about four or five months between 2005-2006. I was there during the World Cup. It was such a good experience to be there.

What interested you in becoming an illusionist?

Adam Trent: When I was eight years old, I saw David Copperfield on television. It was the greatest thing I ever saw. The next year I got a book on magic. That gave me the resource I needed to start learning it. I started practicing card tricks and then I started performing at birthday parties...and went from there.

How long have you been making a living professionally as an illusionist?

Adam Trent: I been making a living doing magic since I was sixteen years old and continued throughout college. I supported myself doing it my whole life in different facets - at corporate events, etc. This particular show, I have been doing for about a year now.

What distinguishes you from other illusionists? What makes you different?

Adam Trent: I was involved in other facets of entertainment before I started magic. At a young age, I started out as a musician, playing drums. Music was a big part of my life. I am also a dancer and began doing stand up comedy when I was in college. My show is very reliant on music. My style is a mergence of the different art forms--music, dancing and comedy with the magic.

You have been called "The Futurist". What do you believe the future of magic will look like?

Adam Trent: No one really knows what the future of magic will look like. However, I believe that the next break out illusionist star will be a personality-based entertainer (similar to Copperfield) who can really relate to and engage an audience. Connectivity is an important element in any form of entertainment.

Do you think you will be that next break out star? Will we see you on a wider spectum like television?

Adam Trent: I certain hope so! If I work real hard, I believe I will have a shot at it. David Copperfield has made such a legacy. He has been the defining person in magic for this century. That type of success one could only hope for.

Adam, we look forward to seeing you in Charlotte at Knight Theater from January 27 - February 1. Have you been to Charlotte before?

Yes, I have been to Charlotte, I travelled there for my solo show many times. I love Charlotte.
