Winter Center to Hold 'Up-Beat' Faculty Concert, 10/05

James Armstrong, professor and instructor of percussion at Millersville University, will lead a faculty recital, "Works for Percussion and Beyond," at the Winter Center of Millersville University on Oct. 5, at 2:30 p.m. The Winter Center is located at 60 W. Cottage Ave, Millersville. The recital is open to the public.

Armstrong has performed and taught on five continents as a clinician and solo artist for Yamaha, Sabian, Vic Firth, and Latin Percussion companies, as well as a member of the internationally acclaimed Marassa Duo and the Robert Hohner Percussion Ensemble. He has recorded for numerous labels, including RCA/DMP, Albany Records and C. Alan. A published composer and author, Armstrong serves as vice president of the Percussive Arts Society, Pennsylvania State Chapter, and is extremely active as a freelance percussionist throughout the Greater Philadelphia and New York City areas.

For the recital, which will feature traditional Afro-Cuban and Afro-Haitian music, Armstrong will be joined by eminent fellow musician-educators and performers Chelsea Snow, Jenice Riebe, Daniel Heslink, Stephen Goss, Erik Forst, Mambo Vye Zo Komande LaMenfo; as well as percussionists Matt Bracciante, Brian Doherty and Rich Klimowicz, who form the Lancaster-based ensemble, Portal Percussion.
