On Saturday, February 13, 2016 at 7:30 p.m., David Kim, the concertmaster of The Philadelphia Orchestra will join the York Symphony Orchestra as a violin soloist during the classical series performance, "Beethoven in Buenos Aires." The concert is the third performance in the 2015-2016 classical series.

Beethoven's heartfelt ode to a day in the country collides with the passionate sounds of the Tango in this emotionally-charged performance. Two modern works by Astor Piazzolla and Osvaldo Golijov highlight the sounds of the Argentine Tango with a special violin solo by David Kim, concertmaster of the Philadelphia Orchestra during Piazzolla's The Four Seasons of Buenos Aires.

"I am thrilled to welcome David Kim to the York Symphony Orchestra stage," said Lawrence Golan, music director and conductor of the York Symphony Orchestra. "Kim's vivacity as a performer will surely come out on stage during this emotionally charged concert."

Born in Carbondale, Illinois, Kim started playing the violin at the age of three, and began his studies with the famed pedagogue Dorothy DeLay at the age of eight. He received his bachelor's and master's degrees from the Juilliard School and now shares his musical expertise with students around the world. Most recently, Kim took his talents to the University of Texas at Austin's Butler School of Music as a visiting professor. Aside from his solo appearances with the Philadelphia Orchestra each season, he appears internationally at festivals such as Brevard, MasterWorks (USA) and Pacific (Japan). Kim has been awarded Honorary Doctorates from Eastern University in suburban Philadelphia, the University of Rhode Island, and Dickinson College.

"I have many friends and supporters in the York area and am hoping for a sold out house to support this beloved ensemble and Maestro Golan. I consider this upcoming appearance with the York Symphony Orchestra as one of the highlights of my year," said Kim. "The Piazzolla Four Seasons is one of my absolute favorites for the violin. It is electrifying work and hits a home run with the audience every time."

"Beethoven in Buenos Aires" will conclude with Beethoven's Symphony No. 6 "Pastorale" that will take the audience on a wistful journey through the European countryside. Real-time visual program notes will offer a guide through the performance.

The York Symphony Orchestra will present "Beethoven in Buenos Aires" Saturday, February 13th at 7:30 p.m. at the Strand-Capitol Performing Arts Center in York. Single tickets starting at $9 for adults and $5 for students are available online at www.yorksymphony.org and by calling 717-846-1111.
