Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg to Open 2014-15 Season With THE FANTASTICKS, 10/10

Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg is proud to present the musical The Fantasticks to open their 2014-2015 Season. This longest-running New York musical opened in 1960 at The Sullivan Street Theater in New York City. Following a brief hiatus after 42 years, the musical was reopened in 2006 and is currently running there.

The Fantasticks tells an allegorical story of two neighboring fathers who trick their children, Luisa and Matt, into falling in love by pretending to feud. The fathers hire traveling actors led by ElGallo to stage a mock abduction so that Matt can heroically save Luisa from the villains. When the children discover the deception, the reject the arranged love match and separate. The resulting dose of reality helps them to grow and mature in true allegory fashion.

Robert (Bob) Casey steps out of retirement to direct this production. He is supported by Stage Manager, Joanne Beecher; Choreographer, Gabriella Marchi; Fight Choreographer, Dan Burke; and a team of musicians. The cast that includes Dan Evans as El Gallo; Kara Miller as Luisa; Adam Fodness as Matt; Rene Ruiz as Huckabee; Ira Rappaport as Bellomy; Emma Harte as The Mute; Duane A. Baker as Henry and Mark Scott as Mortimer.

Theater aficionados will remember Jerrry Orbach as the original El Gallo and the song he made famous, Try to Remember.

The Fantasticks opens October 10, including an Opening Night Celebration and runs evenings at 8:00 PM through October 25th; matinee performances are at 2:30 Pm October 19 and 26. The Fantasticks is performed with special arrangement with Music Theater International. All performances will be held at the Little Theatre of Mechanicsburg, 915 S.
