Hershey Area Playhouse is proud to present the fourth of its 2017 Dark Night Series productions, the Tony-nominated, Pulitzer finalist play Other Desert Cities.

Written by Jon Robin Baitz, Other Desert Cities is a story about Brooke Wyeth, who returns home to Palm Springs after a 6-year absence to celebrate Christmas with her parents, her brother, and her aunt. Brooke announces that she is about to publish a memoir dredging up a pivotal and tragic event in the family's history - a wound they don't want reopened. In effect, she draws a line in the sand and dares them all to cross it.

"On the surface, we have a family with deep fissures and on the brink of breaking apart, said Michael Ritter, the show's director. "But, under that, is actually a core of love and survival."

Cast members of Other Desert Cities include: Liz Alger as Polly Wyeth; Kate Ramsey as Silda Grauman; Valerie Schrader as Brooke Wyeth; Mike Stubbs as Lyman Wyeth; and Travis Zimmerman as Trip Wyeth.

In addition to Ritter, production staff members for Other Desert Cities include: John Fine, producer; David and Cameron Ebright, lighting designers; and Deb Santiago, lighting technician.

Experience the intricate and equally bitter dynamics of one family's love and grief in Other Desert Cities, running May 5-7, 2017 at The Playhouse, located at 830 Cherry Drive, Hershey. Friday and Saturday performances begin at 7:30 p.m.; the Sunday performance begins at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $15 and are available by visiting www.HersheyAreaPlayhouse.com or by calling The Playhouse's box office at 717-533-8525.

The Playhouse adopted the term "Dark Night," a term used by theatres when there is not a performance scheduled, a few years ago as part of a vision to incorporate a wider variety of entertainment to complement its five mainstage shows. The Playhouse relaunched its Dark Night Series in 2016, bringing additional entertainment options, including different, edgier content shows to its mainstage. Several Dark Night Series productions are scheduled for 2017 to include musical acts, as well as original works, comedy acts, and special events.

Hershey Area Playhouse (www.HersheyAreaPlayhouse.com) is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing residents of the community with an opportunity to participate in the creation and production of a theatrical experience. Since its inception in 1999, Hershey Area Playhouse has staged dozens of productions at numerous venues around the Hershey area. In April 2007, The Playhouse opened its new permanent home, Hershey Area Playhouse at Country Meadows.
