Wesley Stace's CABINET OF WONDERS Comes to City Winery Tonight

The ongoing variety show Cabinet of Wonders will be coming to City Winery in New York City tonight, September 19, October 24 and November 21. Celebrated author, singer/songwriter and Cabinet of Wonders host Wesley Stace, formerly known by his stage name John Wesley Harding, will bring together collaborators from the worlds of music, literature and comedy for the shows. Upcoming Cabinet of Wonders performers include Mac McCaughan (Superchunk & Portastatic), Marshall Crenshaw, Eric Andersen, Eugene Mirman, Harry Hill, Sarah Vowell, Charles Bock, Paul Muldoon, Jill Barber, The High Llamas, Kristin Hersh, Nick Lowe and Heaven's Jail with special guest Phosphorescent.

Additionally, Salon is premiering a new animated video by the acclaimed graphic designer and illustratror Stefan G. Bucher for the song "Goodbye Jane" from Stace's album Self-Titled-out last year. A studio performance of the the song serves as the basis for Bucher's video and features rotoscoped animation-a technique that involves hand-tracing over film footage, frame by frame. Since his critically acclaimed 1988 debut It Happened One Night Wesley Stace has recorded 19 records for both major (Sire, Hollywood) and independent (Mammoth, Rhino, Appleseed, Yep Roc) labels alike. Stace is the author of four novels (including the international bestseller Misfortune), teaches a course called "How to Write a Song" at Princeton University with poet Paul Muldoon and is an artist-in-residence at Fairleigh Dickinson University. He is also a regular contributor to The New York Times' Measure For Measure blog.
