About Byron Janis:

Byron Janis is internationally renowned as one of the world's greatest pianists. He made his orchestral debut at age 15 with Toscanini's NBC Symphony Orchestra and, the following year, was chosen by Vladimir Horowitz as his first student. At 18, he became the youngest artist ever signed to a contract by RCA Victor Records. Two years later, in 1948, he made his Carnegie Hall debut which was hailed as an unparalleled success.

About the Hoff-Barthelson Music School Master Class Series:

Master class coaching by guest artists has been part of Hoff-Barthelson's curriculum since the School's founding in 1944. This distinguished tradition continues this season with a roster of world-class musicians and educators including Pamela Devenport and Paul Wiley, cello; Byron Janis, piano; Aaron Rosand, violin; Guy Eshed, flute; Jon Manasse, clarinet; Alice Ripley, voice; and members of the New York Philharmonic.

Master classes are an enlightening experience for students and audiences alike. After months of careful preparation, students perform for and then receive feedback and guidance from a master teacher who often challenges the student to think in new and critical ways about the piece they've prepared. The results are often inspiring and enlightening and serve as a catalyst for students to reach new heights in their own musical explorations.
