This won't be any old traditional production of the musical "On The Town," opening at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse as part of the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival on Aug. 6 in Central New York. The show will run through August 27th.

The musical, fueled by comedic antics and a host of classic songs ("New York, New York," "Lonely Town," "I Can Cook Too" and "Ya Got Me"), will feature visual and/or audio media incorporated on a one-set piece every moment of the show. There will be no traditional set changes.

Instead, 14-foot letters carved out of wood, with screens in them, spelling the words "New York," will show videos and photos to make up the background sets of the show. You can click on this link to see a photo of a model of the theater illustrating how the letters will show images and videos. It is the first time the Festival has constructed a set like this.

Four hours from New York City and situated between Syracuse, Rochester and Ithaca, the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival is the largest producing musical theatre organization in New York state -- outside of New York City. The Festival is headquartered in the town of Auburn, New York - set in the picturesque Finger Lakes wine region of Central New York. The Festival provides top-notch entertainment to more than 60,000 patrons each summer and is routinely recognized by industry press and maintains a high regard in the professional theatre community for its artistry and execution.
