Birdland Jazz Club has announced its July 2016 schedule, featuring Stacey Kent, The Birdland Big Band 10-Year Celebration, The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra, Nicholas Payton Quintet, Arturo O'Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra, Tony Yazbeck, Lesli Margherita, Ravi Coltrane, Laila Biali, Barbara Carroll, Jim Caruso's Cast Party, and more!

June 28-July 2 (Tuesday-Saturday) at 8:30PM & 11:00PM
Ravi Coltrane

Ravi Coltrane is a critically acclaimed Grammy nominated saxophonist, bandleader, and composer. In the course of a twenty plus year career, Mr. Coltrane has worked as a sideman to many, recorded noteworthy albums for himself and others and founded a prominent independent record label, RKM.

George Abud's Change Partners: A Broadway Love Affair

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce George Abud's Change Partners: A Broadway Love Affair will appear one-night-only on Monday, July 4 at 7pm. Birdland is located at 315 West 44 Street, in the heart of Manhattan's Theater District. Change Partners will also feature Michelle Veintimilla (The Visit, "Gotham"), as well as Hannah Corneau (Daddy Long Legs), Elizabeth A. Davis (Once), Diana DiMarzio (Sweeney Todd)Erica Knight (The Nether), Maggie Lakis (Allegro), Nikka Graff Lanzarone (Women on the Verge...) Megan Loomis (Gentleman's Guide...), Emily Mechler (Wicked), Erin Neufer (Nathan The Wise) and Jane Pfitsch (Cabaret).

Stacey Kent

Critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated singer Stacey Kent sings from the soul, telling her stories with faultless phrasing and a lucid, enchanting voice. Her new CD release, "Tenderly," is a collaboration with Brazilian music master Robert Menescal and follow-up to "Marcos Valle & Stacey Kent Live." Stacey's previous Brazilian-flavored CD, "The Changing Lights," (EMI) was a follow-up to "Dreamer In Concert," the Grammy nominated, "Breakfast on the Morning Tram," (2007) and all-French, "Raconte-moi," (2009). Throughout her career, Stacey's band has featured Jim Tomlinson (sax) whose songwriting partnership with famed novelist Kazuo Ishiguro has formed another essential plank in her repertoire.

Award-winning Canadian singer-songwriter and pianist, Laila Biali, has toured with Chris Botti, Paula Cole and Suzanne Vega, and recorded with and supported Sting. Her accolades include "SOCAN Composer of the Year" and "Keyboardist of the Year" at Canada's National Jazz Awards. She takes the best of pop, rock, classical, world and soul, informs it with her expertise in jazz, and weaves it into her musical arrangements and original songs.

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that Tony Award-nominee, Tony Yazbeck, will celebrate the release of his first studio solo CD, "The Floor Above Me" (PS Classics), with two tour-de-force performances on Sunday,July 10 at 6pm and Monday, July 11 at 7pm. Yazbeck and his special guests, Melinda Sullivan, Katie Huff and Clyde Alves, will return to the historic stage with two thrilling evenings of tenor melodies and tenacious tap dancing!

The Birdland Big Band Celebrates 10 Years at Birdland!

Founded by drummer and musical director Tommy Igoe, the Birdland Big Band features the finest musicians in New York! During this weeklong headlining gig, the group will celebrate 10 years in residence at the legendary club. Every Friday for the past 10 years the BBB has kicked off the weekend playing the finest Jazz, Latin and Brazilian music from the world's best arrangers. The Broadway at Birdland concert series is thrilled to announce that Lesli Margherita will reprise her sold-out show, BROAD, at the historic music room on Mondays, July 18 and 25 at 7pm. Following a sold out run in December, Olivier Award Winner Lesli Margherita (Matilda, Dames at Sea) returns to Birdland for an encore performance of her solo show BROAD - an evening celebrating the controversial women of yesteryear. Women who knew how to serve it up and dish it out. Women who took no prisoners and gave no apologies.

The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra Directed by Scotty Barnhart + Special Guest Vocalists

2015 marked the 80th Anniversary of The Count Basie Orchestra. William J. "Count" Basie (1904-1984) started his orchestra in Kansas City in 1935 and proceeded to develop one of the greatest jazz groups in history. Under Basie's leadership -- with a strong commitment to making sure every tune was danceable -- the orchestra featured many of the greatest instrumentalists and vocalists in jazz including Billie Holiday, Lester Young, Harry "Sweets" Edison, Joe Jones, Joe Williams, Snooky Young, Frank Foster, Thad Jones, Frank Wess, Clark Terry, and many more. They played for Kings and Queens, appeared in movies and television shows, and won 18 Grammy Awards, the most for any orchestra. Today, under the leadership of director, Scotty Barnhart, The Count Basie Orchestra is traveling the world, swinging and shouting the blues with precision, in Count Basie's unmistakable style of Kansas City swing.

The Cast of The Phantom of the Opera Sings Sondheim

The Broadway at Birdland concert series is proud to announce that the cast of Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera will collaborate and sing the music of Stephen Sondheim on Sunday, July 24 at 6pm. The one-night-only event will be a benefit concert for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. Laughing Dog Media and James Barbour will present and host "The Cast of Broadway's The Phantom of the Opera Sings Sondheim," a benefit concert for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. This concert, the fourth in a series of benefits by the Phantom cast, will celebrate the canon of iconic American composer and lyricist Stephen Sondheim. Sondheim has received an Academy Award, eight Tony Awards (more than any other composer, including a Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre); eight Grammy Awards; a Pulitzer Prize, the Laurence Olivier Award, and a 2015 Presidential Medal of Freedom. Hosting the event will be the current "Phantom," James Barbour, and his cast will be announced soon.

Jim Caruso's Cast Party is a wildly popular weekly soiree that brings a sprinkling of Broadway glitz and urbane wit to the legendary Birdland in New York City every Monday night. It's a cool cabaret night-out enlivened by a hilariously impromptu variety show. Showbiz superstars, backed by Steve Doyle on bass, Billy Stritch on piano and Daniel Glass on drums, hit the stage alongside up-and-comers, serving up jaw-dropping music and general razzle-dazzle.

David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band

Inspired by the noble jazz pioneers Louis Armstrong, Bix Beiderbecke, Duke Ellington, Jelly Roll Morton and their colleagues, David Ostwald's Louis Armstrong Eternity Band breathes life and passion into America's own great art form. Now in its 14th year of residency at Birdland, the weekly post-workday engagement is the city's best musical bargain! Tuba player David Ostwald leads a rotating lineup that features talents such as clarinetist Anat Cohen, trombonist/vocalist Wycliffe Gordon, pianist Ehud Asherie, drummer Marion Felder and more!

Arturo O'Farrill Afro Latin Jazz Orchestra

Grammy Award winning pianist, composer and educator Arturo O'Farrill -- leader of the "first family of Afro-Cuban Jazz" (NY Times) -- was born in Mexico and grew up in New York City. Son of the late, great composer Chico O'Farrill, Arturo was Educated at Manhattan School of Music, Brooklyn College Conservatory and the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College. He played piano in Carla Bley's Big Band from 1979 through 1983 and earned a reputation as a soloist in groups led by Dizzy Gillespie, Steve Turre, Freddy Cole, Lester Bowie, Wynton Marsalis and Harry Belafonte.
