For over two years now, The Penny Seats, Ann Arbor's new pre-professional repertory theatre company, have been entertaining local audiences under the mantra "making beautiful things from minimal resources." The group has staged three productions to date – "Goodnight Desdemona (Good Morning Juliet)" and "She Loves Me" at the West Park Band Shell and "What Corbin Knew" at Performance Network – in addition to a number of special performances, including 826 Michigan's annual "Five Bowls of Oatmeal" fundraiser. Next up, the group will partner with the Ann Arbor Senior Center for a cabaret show "From Broadway to the Huron River" as part of the Center's Cultural Arts Series.

Pamela Simmons, facility supervisor for the Center, explained, "We've started this series as a means of providing a diverse array of easily accessible entertainment for seniors. The Penny Seats rehearsed 'She Loves Me' this past summer at the Center, and it just seemed like a glorious fit to have them come back and perform their 'greatest hits.' Just wait until you hear these folks sing…they are marvelous!"

Lauren London, president of the Penny Seats added, "We are so grateful for the support the Ann Arbor community has given our group. Being able to rehearse this summer at the Center was such fun – what a great facility! We were honored by this opportunity to perform and to thank the Center for their support of us and for all the good they do for this community."

The show will be performed on October 21 from 1:30 to 3 pm at Ann Arbor Senior Center, 1320 Baldwin Avenue (www.a2gov.org/senior). Admission is free for members, $5 for non-members – and all are welcome, seniors and non-seniors alike. Music will include selections from the Bock and Harnick musical "She Loves Me" as well as fun and familiar tunes from film, stage, and the great American songbook, including "The Scarlet Pimpernel," "The Little Mermaid," "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory," and more. All proceeds benefit the Ann Arbor Senior Center.

To reserve tickets, contact the center at (734) 794-6250 or via email at pssimmons@a2gov.org.

Founded in 2010, we're performers and players, minimalists and penny-pinchers. We think theatre should be fun and stirring, not stuffy or repetitive. We believe going to a show should not break the bank. And we find Michigan summer evenings beautiful. Thus, we produce dramas and comedies, musicals and original adaptations, classics and works by up-and-coming playwrights. We also provide cabaret shows, acting classes, and wacky improv evenings. And you can see any of our shows for the same price as a movie ticket.
