Coming up this week, 54 BELOW, the performance venue located just below the legendary Studio 54 at 254 West 54th Street, presents some of the brightest stars from Broadway, cabaret, jazz and beyond:

The pages of Playbill.com come to life in The Contemporary Musical Theatre Songwriters You Should Know: LIVE!, based on the series of the same name by Playbill staff writer Michael Gioia. Join a handful of the contemporary songwriters who are making noise in New York City's theatre district as they offer world-premiere songs performed by Broadway's best. At 54 Below, audiences will learn about the new sound that is making waves in Broadway's underground before it surfaces on the Great White Way. Hosted by Playbill writer Michael Gioia, the evening will feature music by Kait Kerrigan and Brian Lowdermilk, Scott Alan, Katie Thompson, Michael Kooman and Christopher Dimond, Deborah Abramson, Will Van Dyke, Sam Carner and Derek Gregor, Ryan Scott Oliver, Adam Gwon, Drew Gasparini, Joe Iconis and Jonathan Reid Gealt. Broadway's Edward Hibbert returns to 54 Below with his hit cabaret show, after a sold-out run in February! Best known as Gil Chesterton the restaurant critic on TV's Frasier, Broadway and off-Broadway audiences have delighted in his varied performances in The Drowsy Chaperone, Curtains, Jeffrey, and the upcoming It Shoulda Been You. In Can't Something Be Done?, Edward presents an evening of irreverent stories and songs by Cole Porter, Noel Coward, and also contemporary songwriters. Enjoy stories of Edward's travels from England to the Great White Way...and beyond. Broadway's leading bad guy (The Green Goblin in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, Scar in The Lion King, The Grinch in How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rufus Buckley in A Time to Kill, Henry VIII in A Man for All Seasons) explores theatrical villainy from Captain Hook to Sweeney Todd. An evening full of laughs (diabolical and otherwise), songs, insights, and surprises -in a one night only performance at 54 Below. Drew Gasparini WITH Justin Guarini & MORE, January 29 at 7PM:
After his debut concert at 54 Below sold out in record time, we decided to give the people what they want: more Drew! Drew Gasparini and friends return with Volume 2 of ""From Here & There: The Music & Lyrics of Drew Gasparini." Volume 1 was a compilation of rock songs from all over Drew's catalogue but the brand new set list for January will showcase his compositions for musical theatre, featuring a number of songs from his award-winning musicals Crazy, Just Like Me and Make Me Bad (book by Alex Brightman), as well as the premiere of new songs from two of his latest projects: The Up and Down and The Wreck. And of course, no Gasparini concert is complete without a good ol' jam session. Drew will be joined on stage by Justin Guarini (Romeo and Juliet, American Idol), Jason Gotay (Bring It On, Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark), Alex Brightman (Big Fish), Andrew Kober (Hair), F. Michael Haynie (Wicked), Julia Mattison (Godspell), Ben Crawford (Big Fish), and Kasie Gasparini, as well as band members Charlie Rosen, Adrien Godat, and Marques Walls. Drew Gasparini won the John Lennon Songwriting Award, and his music has been heard on NBC's SMASH as well as in venues all over the country, including the Kennedy Center. His musical Make Me Bad (book by Alex Brightman) was awarded by PACE New Musicals and will be presented in an industry workshop in NYC in early February. Crazy, Just Like Me received a NYC workshop in November (Best of Fest, NYMF 2011), and his musical adaptation of Turn of the Screw (book by Michael Kimmel) was presented at Lincoln Center in 2012. Diana DeGarmo & Ace Young IN SAMSON & DELILAH, January 29 & 30 at 9:30PM:
An evening of songs from the soon-to-be-released Broadway Records album Samson & Delilah, A Love Story containing songs from the forthcoming new musical Samson & Delilah, music and lyrics by Ron Yatter. These songs will be performed along with other songs from the musical. Newly married lovers and American Idol /Broadway stars Ace Young and Diana DeGarmo sing the roles of Samson and Delilah. Other talented performers will join Ace and Diana in performing additional songs from the show. The songs are a unique blend of legit theater and pop/rock. The show is a new telling of the epic, tragic love story of the biblical couple from different cultures. Delilah, the beautiful young Philistine, falls in love with the mighty Samson. When she betrays him it's over misguided jealousy. She realizes her tragic mistake and they reconcile. In advance of its Valentine's Day release, the Samson & Delilah, A Love Story album will be available for sale at the shows with the stars signing copies afterwards. $30-40 cover charge. $25 food & beverage minimum.
Michele Lee, January 30 at 7PM, January 31 & February 1 at 8PM:
Following her acclaimed concert "Catch the Light," this all new show finds the stunning Michele Lee making a rare appearance in New York for three nights only. Ms. Lee's new concert boasts an eclectic songbook, with classics she popularized as well songs from those magical composers, lyricists, and artists with whom she has worked and shared stages in every medium. A multiple Emmy and Tony-nominated actor, Michele Lee has starred in CBS's "Knots Landing" as well as such classic Broadway musicals as the original How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying and Seesaw. Michele is the consummate "knock 'em dead" entertainer who enthralls audiences, from stories that tickle the funnybone to ballads that cut deep into the soul. With a brilliant quintet led by arranger/conductor extraordinaire Ron Abel, Ms. Lee's engagement at 54 Below will be a fantastic night of flat out fun and stories for the ages. $35-45 cover charge. $25 food & beverage minimum.
Josh Franklin, January 30 at 11:30PM:
Album release concert! Josh Franklin (Ghost, Legally Blonde, Grease, Jersey Boys) performing original tunes from his debut album with special guests Daniel Watts, Abby Mueller, Brian Sears, Alex Finke and an incredible band. Josh has played opposite such stars as Jennifer Hudson, Sutton Foster, Joel Grey, Jessica Walter and Susan Anton, and has toured the country and Canada starring in 1st national tours such as Jersey Boys (Bob Gaudio), Grease (Danny Zuko), Disney's On The Record, All Shook Up (Chad), and most recently Anything Goes (Billy). He has been seen on television in Gossip Girl, The Tony Awards (2007/2011), and A Capitol Fourth along side Barry Manilow, Aretha Franklin and the Sesame Street characters. As a songwriter, Josh released his debut album in 2013 of 11 all-original tunes which can be purchased on iTunes and he was commissioned by his home town, Colorado Springs, to write a theme song for the city entitled Spirit of the Springs. When not performing, Josh is teaching in NYC or at the Colorado Springs Conservatory, of which he proudly spent his youth training. He holds a BFA in Musical Theater from Webster University. Niko Tsakalakos, January 31 at 11PM:
Come celebrate award-winning singer/songwriter Niko Tsakalakos' first live performance marking his debut solo album, The First Snow. Brian Usifer (Music Director, Kinky Boots; Book of Mormon) helms a 7 piece band comprised of players from the Kinky Boots orchestra. The concert will also feature special guest artists who will sing some of Niko's original stand-alone theatre songs as well as songs from his new musicals Alexander Supertramp and Pool Boy. Expect a carefully crafted sampling of songs from shows in which she was an original Broadway cast member, as well as a healthy serving of melodies that cover a wide range of genres, including her own original tunes! WELL-STRUNG, February 2 at 9:30PM:
Well-Strung, the singing string quartet, has quickly gained national and international attention for their unique mash-up of string quartet and boy band. The foursome features classical musicians who sing, putting their own spin on the music of Mozart, Vivaldi, Ke$ha, Pink, Adele, Lady Gaga, Britney Spears & more.
