Roger McGuinn to Appear at SOPAC 4/4

Roger McGuinn, legendary guitarist and founder of the 1960s Folk-Rock band the Byrds, will perform live at the South Orange Performing Arts on May 4 at 7:30 p.m. Known for his instantly recognizable hits "Turn, Turn, Turn," "Eight Miles High" and "Mr. Tambourine Man" he will also play music from his latest projectTreasures from the Folk Den. McGuinn's songs became the message for an entire generation, and helped shape the cultural landscape of the 1960s, a turbulent time in American history. His time with the Byrds earned him a well-deserved place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. "Music would be a very different place if it hadn't been for Roger McGuinn," says Rolling Stone.

Roger McGuinn began his career in Folk music, studying at Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago in his youth. As he developed his singular style he incorporated new elements of the electric guitar into Folk tunes and the result was the new sound of the Rickenbacker 12-string guitar that made "Mr. Tambourine Man" so distinctive and placed The Byrds on the top charts. McGuinn's illustrious career includes not only the Folk-Rock band the Byrds, but a very successful solo career. Recently, he has dedicated his time and talent to preserving what his career has always been about, Folk-Rock music. His latest endeavor Treasures from the Folk Den is an extension of his preservation project.


Treasures from the Folk Den is a spellbinding adventure of song and story showcasing McGuinn's mastery of the string instrument and storytelling combined with his passion for the Folk genre. The audience can expect to hear old treasures and discover new ones in this evening of musical delight.
