"Southern Comfort" CD Release Celebration
Time Magazine calls violinist Regina Carter "wonderfully listenable, probingly intelligent, and at times breathtakingly daring". As the most recent in a long line of important and eclectic Jazz artists from Detroit (including Tommy Flanagan, Kenny Burrell, Barry Harris, cousin James Carter and others) Carter continues her musical journey through history with her Sony Music Master Works Debut, "Southern Comfort," in which she investigates her family history and explores the folk tunes her paternal grandfather, a coalminer, would have heard as he toiled in Alabama. The expanded project includes a blend of folk songs and spirituals, serving as Carter's interpretation of her roots through modern jazz.
