Kyra Miller to Encore CHOSEN at Joe's Pub, 3/31

Kyra Miller to Encore CHOSEN at Joe's Pub, 3/31Kyra Miller will return to Joe's Pub after her January debut with the show she wrote, titled CHOSEN. Miller will play Joe's Pub on Monday, March 31 at 9:30 pm.

The show previously premiered this summer to a sold-out crowd at the Metropolitan Room. The show is a classic New York story -- told in a distinctly wry, off-beat way -- about blind ambition, dark fairy tales and Russian beauticians. It includes lots of American songbook (old and newish), with the wonderful Matt Ray (of Taylor Mac, Lady Rizo, Justin VivIan Bond) on piano.

Miller was raised in Brooklyn by parents from Queens and the Bronx. She has a yen for old-fashioned American songbook, but a modern sensibility, setting her own storytelling against a backdrop of the most moving songs ever written. She is making her debut at Joe's Pub this January.

Originally a dancer, she settled on acting due to a case of flat feet. (She is also a classically trained soprano with a long list of teachers.) Her theater life has taken her all over the country; acting credits include Seattle Repertory Theater, A.C.T., the Westport Country Playhouse, Southern Rep in New Orleans, the Utah Shakeseparean Festival, the 5th Avenue Theater and Portland Stage Company. Her recent work includes playing Franca in "The Light in the Piazza" at the Philadelphia Theater Company (Joe Calarco directing), and she won a Big Easy Award in New Orleans for Aldonza in "The Man of La Mancha." In New York, she has appeared at Symphony Space, The Pearl, Dixon Place, 100 Grand, the Bushwick Starr and the HERE Arts Center; she has performed her own work at the Cornelia Street Café and the Metropolitan Room. She regularly performs with The Fabulists, a neo-vaudevillian collective. MFA, University of Washington Professional Actor Training Program.
