FEB 10-15
ELIZA DOOLITTLE<http://www.joespub.com/component/option,com_shows/task,view/Itemid,40/id,5582>
Thursday, February 10 at 7:00 PM; $12
In the charming video for her first U.S. single, "Rollerblades," Eliza Doolittle, a lanky, saucer-eyed brunette in a white tank top and denim short shorts, cycles leisurely around New York's Lower East Side. A boy from her past appears to tie a bunch of bright blue balloons to the back of her bike, disappears, then reappears with her on a sofa on the sidewalk, then evaporates again before reappearing to buy her an Icee, after which Doolittle leaves him in the dust, jumping into a shopping cart with her girlfriends and riding off into a perfect Manhattan afternoon.

"The boy in the video is a bit unreliable the way he keeps popping in and out," Doolittle explains, "so it's kind of a metaphor for him not knowing what he wants. In the end I realize that I need to move on from that and get on with my life."

Her disarming frankness and tart observations are actually her strong suits. "Skinny Genes" is "a cheeky song about a really annoying boy who has no good qualities, except for one really good one," she says, while "Nobody" dismisses the cheap lure of fame with a simple question: "What's wrong with being a nobody?" "Everyone's got a dark side, but mine definitely isn't the first thing you notice about me," she says. "So it was important to me to be in touch with my personality through the music, and I think this album really shows that."

"I'd like to be a pop musician in the proper old school vein of pop when there weren't any different genres like there are now; it was all just pop music," she says. "I just want to write songs people can sing along to. I can't think of anything more exciting than traveling the world and playing to audiences and having them sing your words with you."

BERNIE WORRELL & SOCIALYBRIUM<http://www.joespub.com/component/option,com_shows/task,view/Itemid,40/id,5531>

Friday, February 11 at 11:30 PM; $20
"The sound of the band SociaLybrium is just exactly what I imagine it would sound like if keyboard funkmaster Bernie Worrell played all the instruments himself. I'm serious: graft a bunch more arms and legs on the man - with everything answering to that groovemonster brain - and this is what the result would be. Worrell's three bandmates in SociaLybrium - bassist Melvin Gibbs, drummer J.T. Lewis, and guitarist Ronny Drayton - are perfect formation flyers when it comes to brain-syncing with Worrell and their debut album "For You - For Us - For All" is proof. The individual parts of SociaLybrium add up to one big chunk of jazzy fusion funk and that's all you need to know" - Brian Robbins

Natalie Joy Johnson<http://www.joespub.com/component/option,com_shows/task,view/Itemid,40/prod_no,15029>

Sunday, February 13 at 7:30 PM; $20

"Natalie Joy Johnson sings with a purity of spirit." - The New York Times

You've seen her on Broadway. You've seen her light up the screen as Kristen Bell's co-star in the largely unseen art film "When In Rome." You've seen her passed out in various gutters throughout New York City. Now, Natalie Joy Johnson conquers the filthiest gutter of them all - Joe's Pub. Under the micro-managing direction of has-been-that-never-was, John Hill (her co-star in "bare: a pop opera written in lowercase letters") Ms. Johnson is on a mission to corrupt you, touch you 'down there', melt your heart, and pretty much fuck you up.

JACKIE FIVE-0H!: A CELEBRATION OF Jackie Hoffman'S FIRST 50TH BIRTHDAY<http://www.joespub.com/component/option,com_shows/task,view/Itemid,40/id,5434>
Mondays, February 14 & 21 at 7:30 PM; $30

Broadway's Jackie Hoffman, acclaimed for her hysterical scene-stealing performances in such shows as Hairspray, Xanadu and currently as ‘Grandma' in The Addams Family, will bring her all-new solo show Jackie Five-Oh!: A Celebration of Jackie Hoffman's First 50th Birthday to Joe's Pub (425 Lafayette Street) beginning Monday, November 22 for four consecutive Monday evenings.
In the all-new Jackie Five-Oh!, the blisteringly funny, filter-free Hoffman muses on her own decay, as well as about her experiences playing ‘Grandma' and a host of other topics such as Haiti and Hollywood. Hoffman will also world premiere several new musical numbers, including two that she wrote for ‘Grandma'....if she were to have a solo number in The Addams Family, which of course she doesn't .....not that she's ever complained about that.

Hoffman's previous outings at Joe's Pub (immortalized on the CD Jackie Hoffman: Live At Joe's Pub....NOT sold in the Lunt-Fontanne lobby) have garnered a cult following, as well as critical acclaim. Charles Isherwood of The New York Times wrote, "Jackie Hoffman's solo shows at Joe's Pub have become a beloved ritual. Ms. Hoffman radiates anything but love and charity as she reviews the year in outrage, both global and personal. And who can blame her! " Adam Feldman in Time Out wrote that Jackie Hoffman "may be one of America's funniest women."

Jackie Five-Oh! is written by Hoffman and Michael Schiralli, and directed by Schiralli. Musical direction is by Bobby Peaco. Jackie Five-Oh! will be performed Monday, November 22; Monday, November 29; Monday, December 6; and Monday, December 13. Performance time is 7:30 pm. Tickets are $30. For tickets, visit www.joespub.com<http://www.joespub.com> or call (212) 967-7555.

FEDERICO AUBELE: LIVE<http://www.joespub.com/component/option,com_shows/task,view/Itemid,40/id,5007>

Monday, February 14 at 9:30 PM; $18

Federico Aubele returns to a smoky realm of acoustic guitar licks, heavy rhythms and sinister dub atmospherics for his fourth studio album, Berlin 13. The record pulls from the personal transformation Aubele experienced in his time living in Berlin and the vibe of a city strongly associated with electronic music.

"Moving to Berlin was a great experience for me, though not an easy one. It forced me to face a lot of my demons. When everything that you take for granted disappears and you find yourself in a whole new scenario, you need to redefine all things in your life," Aubele says. "Sort out what you want to keep and what you need to leave behind. It can be painful, but it is a great experience once you assimilate it. It reminds me of that Bukowsky phrase that goes: what matters most is how well you walk through fire"

The inclusion of the number 13 in the title refers to the Tarot Cards: the 13th card is "Death". While many may draw a negative connotation with this card, it can actually signify a deep renewal and transformation in a person's life.

"I learned how to read the Tarot Cards when I was still living in Buenos Aires. It's a fascinating system for self-exploration. The 13 can mean a deep crisis that eliminates everything that prevents you from moving forward. That is exactly what I experienced in Berlin".

To set the tone for this album, Aubele revisited his deepest musical influences, focusing on those he believed essential in his formation as an artist. From the backing beats to the musique-concrete samples, and the nylon string guitar layered with his baritone voice, the result is a blending of the elements in his unique style.

"I had a formal musical education. One of the things I rescue from those years, is being exposed to a lot of 20th century composers and styles. I was fascinated with Schoenberg's atonalism, Stockhausen's explorations in electroacoustic music and musique concrete, Ligeti's tone clusters, etc. The core of my music is a combination of electronic music, dub, classical guitar and the experiments those composers conducted in the 50's and 60's."

THE CIVIL WARS<http://www.joespub.com/component/option,com_shows/task,view/Itemid,40/id,5545>

Tuesday, February 15 at 9:30 PM; $15

Barton Hollow, the full-length debut from The Civil Wars, will be released February 1 (Sensibility Music). The album comes on the heels of a breakout year for the duo, whose remarkably successful live album has been downloaded over 90,000 times. Additionally, their 2009 four song EP, Poison & Wine, debuted at #4 on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter Top Albums chart. The EP's title track and first single was played in full on "Grey's Anatomy" and its accompanying music video has been viewed over 350,000 times on YouTube. Of the song, Stereo Subversion declares, "...your ears are immediately gripped by a haunting sound both simple and pristine...breathtaking..."

The Civil Wars consists of John Paul White, hailing from Florence, AL and Joy Williams, originally from Santa Cruz, CA, but now residing in East Nashville. The duo's chance meeting a year and a half ago fueled an immediate songwriting chemistry and creative synergy. Their second show ever, performed at a sold out Eddie's Attic, was recorded and released as a free digital album. Of the duo, Reg's Coffee House host, Scott Register, praises, "In my 13 years on the radio, few of the artists I've championed had as immediate a reaction as The Civil Wars. When I first spun ‘Poison & Wine' listeners couldn't get enough of it and wanted to own it immediately. This band has the ‘it' factor that you look for. Don't miss out."

The 12-track album was recorded in Nashville and was produced by Grammy-award winning producer, Charlie Peacock. A music video for the first single and title track, "Barton Hollow," will be released this November. In support of the release, the duo will embark on a nationwide tour.
