Florencia Cuenca to Bring Show THE NEW STANDARDS to The Metropolitan Room

Musical Theater and Jazz Superstar Florencia Cuenca will bring her show The New Standards to the internationally acclaimed jazz cabaret The Metropolitan Room. The show is arranged and directed by musical theater composer, Jaime Lozano.

Georger Gershwin, , Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, Irving Berlin would be tickled pink if they had the opportunity to hear Jazz Standards kicked up a notch to a new level and with a new twist. Mexican musical theatre composer and arranger, Jaime Lozano is joined by musical theatre and jazz singer Florencia Cuenca to present a Jazz version of the songs from contemporary 60s to present, musical theatre. They call this "The New Standards." You'll recognize the music of the stage but with a robust jazzy flair and a richness in sound.

Born in Monterrey, Mexico, Jaime Lozano has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Music and Composition from the Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León and was the recipient of a full academic scholarship while earning his Master of Fine Arts from the Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts. His work has been performed at Goodspeed Opera House, Julliard School of Music, The Triad Theatre, Theatre for the New City, Soho Playhouse, Puerto Rican Traveling Theatre, Town Hall, Minskoff Theatre and various other venues. A few of his many directorial and adaption credits include Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, The Fantasticks, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jekyll & Hyde (Mexican Premiere), Songs for a New World (Spanish World Premiere) and The Last 5 Years (Spanish World Premiere). His original and adapted musical theatre works include Tlatelolco (composer, lyricist and librettist), The Yehuatl (composer), Lightning Strikes Twice (composer), Children of Salt (composer), which is currently being developed with director/choreographer Luis Salgado for its New York City début, and The Yellow Brick Road (co-composer and co-lyricist), which will have its Off Broadway premier Summer 2011 and an upcoming national tour. Jaime is the arranger and orchestrator for the Broadway album Carols for a Cure 2010. He is a teacher and activist for the not-for-profit organization R.Evolución Latina, where he has been developing music theatre educational programming. In addition, he is the arranger, orchestrator and music director of the album Dare to go Beyond, featuring various Broadway performers. Jaime is a proud member of The Dramatist Guild, BMI, and the Partnership/Promotion Committee for the NYU Musical Theatre Writer's Collective.
