Bebe Zahara Benet
, one of the most celebrated drag entertainers in America, follows the success of CREATURE with the premiere of a new show VANITY at Joe's Pub, 425 Lafayette Street, on October 22 at 7:30 p.m. This one-night-only show is an intimate showcase pairing original music from Bebe's upcoming new album with new interpretations of jazz standards and pop classics in a way only BeBe can deliver.
"VANITY is a celebration of beauty, self-identity, and self-respect. We want people to leave the show feeling okay to accept themselves - not to hold back and be ashamed of the extravagances they like to indulge in," says Bebe. "We should be able to celebrate these things because they are part of living and we all strive for them. Generally speaking, the term, 'vanity," itself can be perceived as negative, superficial and egotistical, but I see it as being unapologetic for celebrating other sides of my artistry."
The Beto Sutter-produced show pairs edgy selections of new music with well-loved classics that will make you jump out of your seat. Featuring a live band and background singers, musical Director Dakarai Morris-James, a Toronto-based artist known for fusing R&B with electronic music and acoustic sensibilities, is on board as well as Bebe brings VANITY's new and original music to the stage.
VANITY tickets are on sale now at NYC's Joe's Pub for $20. VANITY will premiere as television audiences all across the globe will rediscover and fall in love with Bebe all over again, as Season One of RuPaul's Drag Race reairs on the LOGO network, beginning on September 30 at 9 p.m. EST. The show chronicles Bebe's meteoric rise to drag fame during the reality show competition.
