THE JEWBADOURS

Thursday, July 2 at 9:30PM

$20

Huddled around an AM radio on the fire escape of a fifth floor walk-up, native New Yorkers Ariel Hammerstein and Yakob Veivelman, aka The Jewbadours, grew up obsessed with the smooth sounds of the post-disco, pre-new wave era. Completely devoted to this hallmark era of pop music, it is their life's mission to bring the hits and lesser-known classics of the late '70s and early '80s back to the masses. Their catalog is a virtual A to Z of the Billboard charts from three and half decades past: Ambrosia to Xanadu, all interpreted through the prism of the New York Jewish experience.

Friday, July 3 at 7:30PM

$12

Ali Grieb has an unstoppable energy and a way of telling stories that not only draws people in but keeps them laughing for days. Her magnetic charm and big band sound are that which were thought to be lost with the golden age. Having grown up South Georgia (by way of South Jersey) with her Jewish mother from the Bronx, she is a whole lot of East Coast Sass with stories you can't even begin imagine if you tried!

** HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY! **

AN EVENING WITH DAVID BRONSON

Monday, July 6 at 7:30PM

$15

David Bronson recently released his third album Questions (Big Arc Records). The record has been hailed by fans and press alike as one of the best albums to emerge in 2015, and as a momentous artistic step from an up-and-coming talent who has been called "one of the most heartfelt and emotionally raw new artists in music" (Guitar World). The singer-songwriter, who has called New York City his home for his entire adult life, teamed up with veteran producer Godfrey Diamond (Lou Reed, Etta James, Aerosmith) and longtime David Bowie collaborators Carlos Alomar and Robin Clark to create a soul-drenched paean to the uncertainties of burgeoning adulthood. It's a deceptively fluid amalgam of soul, gospel, folk, and dance-funk grafted on to the classic 70's-infused singer-songwriting Bronson has become known for.

As co-writer on Zac Brown Band's CMA Awards-nominated song, "Colder Weather," Lowrey's signature style of poignant honesty, both dark and light, acts like a salve for kindred souls. Drawing inspiration from the struggles and triumphs of his own life, Lowrey's heart is on his sleeve, reassuring us that we're not alone.

The Public's wide range of programming includes free Shakespeare in the Park, the bedrock of the Company's dedication to making theater accessible to all, new and experimental stagings at The Public at Astor Place, and a range of artist and audience development initiatives including its Public Forum series, which brings together theater artists and professionals from a variety of disciplines for discussions that shed light on social issues explored in Public productions.
