Broadway Gives Back has announced an upcoming concert entitled "Broadway Charity Songs!" "Broadway Charity Songs" has paired a group of award-winning musical theatre composers with a group of outstanding charities and tasked them with composing an original piece that each prospective charity could use for fundraising purposes. The result is a group of songs gifted to the charities - with the hope that the songs "go viral" while increasing awareness for these outstanding organizations. The concert will take place on March 25th, 2013, 7:30pm at Le Poisson Rouge.

The concert will feature songs by Tony nominee Jeff Blumenkrantz, Richard Rogers Award winners Benj Pasek & Justin Paul (A Christmas Story and Dogfight), Jonathan Larson award-winner Joshua H. Cohen, Jerry Bock Award winner Andy Monroe, and YouTube sensation Jonathan Reid Gealt. Broadway Charity Songs will also include songs by the promising voices of up-and-coming composers Noel Carey, Andre Catrini, Rob DelGaudio, J Sebastian Fabal, Blake Pfeil, and Zoe Sarnak.

All of the proceeds from the concert will directly benefit the charity organizations. The charitable causes include well known charity organizations, such as Ben Affleck's Eastern Congo Initiative, Dress for Success, Make a Wish, Clay Aiken's National Inclusion Project, GLAAD, and the ASPCA. Additional charities include The Soldiers Project (which provides free mental health support to military service members), Seeds of Peace (which provides young people and educators from regions of conflict with the opportunity to meet their historic enemies face-to-face), Candlelighters NYC (an organization dedicated to helping families get through the difficult times when a child is diagnosed with and being treated for cancer), Charity: Water (which provides safe water to areas currently without access), and the Ryan Waldheger Research Memorial (which aims to improve cancer care for adolescents and young adults through research that bridges the gap between pediatric and adult cancer care programs).

The list of performers includes: Adam Chanler-Berat (Broadway's Next to Normal, Peter and the Starcatcher), Tony nominee Jeff Blumenkrantz, Alysha Umphress (American Idiot, On A Clear Day...), Nick Cearly (The Skivvies), Jason Gotay (F*cking Up Everything, Bring It On), Nic Dromard (Mary Poppins), Tommy McDowell (American Idiot National Tour), Shawna M. Hamic (Les Miserables National Tour), Emma Hunton (Rent at New World Stages), Natalie Gallo (Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys), Morgan McCann (Oklahoma National Tour), Marc Winski (Grease National Tour), Brian Walters (Titanic National Tour), James Bullard, Sally Eidman, and Kevin Reed.

About Broadway Gives Back: In response to the cultural view of musical theatre as "fluffy" and expendable, Broadway Gives Back is clear that the future of musical theatre will continue to be controlled by commercial interests unless the form of musical theatre is seen as both powerful and socially important. Broadway Gives Back creates events that are designed to highlight the essential nature of musical theatre as a form, and increase exposure for artists and those who are directly helped through the form of musicalized story telling.
