Brescia, Goldrich and Heisler Set For NEW VOICES Concert 7/19 At The Duplex

The sixth year of the acclaimed series, Monday Nights, New Voices, will continue on July 19th at The Duplex Cabaret Theatre with guest host Lisa Brescia, most recently seen Off-Broadway in Ordinary Days at the Roundabout.

The 7pm concert will be celebrating the songs of Fred Ebb Award winners, Marcy Heisler and Zina Goldrich. Vocalists for the evening include Christopher Brasfield, Christina Cataldo, Cassie McIvor, Jared Picone and Chelsea Waller.

Goldrich will accompany each performer on selections from their songbook and, along with Heisler, will offer stories about their songs. Paul Staroba is the musical director.

Lisa Brescia was most recently seen in Ordinary Days at Roundabout's Underground Theatre, where she received rave reviews for her performance as Claire. She has starred on Broadway as Elphaba in Wicked, Cleo in Twyla Tharp's The Times They Are A-Changin' and was seen as Marion Halcombe in The Woman in White when she stepped in for British star Maria Friedman. She played Amneris in Aida on Broadway for the last year of its run and was seen in the revival of Jesus Christ Superstar. Regional credits include the Kennedy Center's Side Show (Violet), The Unauthorized Autobiography of Samantha Brown (Mom), Evita (Eva), The Last 5 Years (Cathy), A Little Night Music (Petra) and Brigadoon (Meg). For five years, she toured worldwide as a "Mama" with The Mamas and The Papas with original members John Phillips and Denny Doherty. Lisa is a proud graduate of the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and was a member of the AADA Repertory Company. She lives in New Jersey with her husband, Broadway composer/lyricist Craig Carnelia.

Zina Goldrich and Marcy Heisler are thrilled to be the first women ever honored as recipients of the Fred Ebb Award for Musical Theatre Songwriting. They are likewise delighted to have been nominated for 2009 Drama Desk Awards for Outstanding Lyrics and Music for Dear Edwina and to have earned Lucille Lortel Award nominations for their Junie B.Jones. Goldrich and Heisler have provided original songs for The Disney Channel, Disney Interactive and Feature Animation projects, Disney Theatricals, PBS, and Nickelodeon. As performers, they have toured domestically and internationally, presenting their music at some of the finest venues, including Carnegie Hall, Canada's "Juste Pour Rire" comedy festival and the Kennedy Center. Raved The Village Voice, "[They] have been turning out smart lyrics and sophisticated melodies for some time. Keep in mind they're the ones whose nifty love song rhymed 'quesadilla' with 'IKEA.'" Kristin Chenoweth popularized their song, "Taylor, the Latte Boy," performing it on The Today Show, The Rosie O'Donnell Show, and in concert at Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera House, and the White House.
