Alexa Ray Joel to Perform Series of Shows at Cafe Carlyle in May

Café Carlyle is pleased to welcome back Alexa Ray Joel for her fifth engagement, May 17-28. Reviewing a previous engagement at the Café, The New York Times called Joel, daughter of music legend Billy Joel and supermodel Christie Brinkley, "a singer following her own heart," adding, "Her original work... is firmly grounded in a pop tradition in which streams converge, from gospel to Tin Pan Alley. The songs are bluntly melodic, lyrically direct and catchy." Since she was 15, Joel has been writing complete songs and complementing those songs with piano accompaniment, and writing poetry. At Café Carlyle, Alexa Ray Joel will perform original material in addition to giving her signature style to a set of popular songs. She'll be accompanied by Carmine Giglio on piano.

Performances will take place Tuesday - Saturday at 8:45pm. Reservations made by phone at 212.744.1600 are $75 ($125 for premium seating, $55 for bar seating) Tuesday - Thursday; and $85 ($135 for premium seating, $65 for bar seating) on Friday and Saturday. Joel has said that her musical upbringing with her father gave her a "unique inside peek into the songwriting process." "It's no wonder I write music in the same way (my father) does," she continues, "melody first, and lyrics second." In 2010, Joel released her single "Notice Me" to acclaim. Late that year and in early 2011, she performed a residency at the storied Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel. Recently, Joel was featured in The Gap's "Back to Blue" ad campaign, performing a cover of Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are."

Joel has performed at a wide range of events, including three previous sold out runs at the Café. In 2008, she joined Billy Joel onstage during the Rainforest Foundation Benefit Concert at Carnegie Hall. Joel and her father performed his song "Baby Grand" at a Barack Obama election fundraiser at the Hammerstein Ballroom on October 16, 2008. She has also performed at benefits for Save Sag Harbor, Habitat For Humanity and St. Jude's Children's Research, among others.

Alexa is also an actress and has voiced roles on ABC's Family Guy and actively auditions on Broadway. She honed her Beauty & Fashion expert skills on Access Hollywood's "How to Achieve the Bombshell Look." Alexa appeared in makeup guru Bobbi Brown's book Pretty Powerful. She has also contributed to the teen publication J-14's "Life's Big Questions" helping teenage girls solve problems associated with growing up.

She has also been a fashion correspondent for the lifestyle site Julib.com during Spring and Fall Fashion Week, interviewing celebrities and fashion designers including Charlotte Ronson, Max Azria, Badgley Mischka, Heidi Klum, Cyndi Lauper and more. In 2006, Joel self-released a six-song EP Sketches, for which she designed and illustrated the album art and packaging.
