Academy of Country Music Awards nominee Kacey Musgraves believes there's an ongoing shift to younger artists and more realistic song lyrics in country music, she tells Anthony Mason in an interview for CBS SUNDAY MORNING WITH CHARLES OSGOOD to be broadcast April 7, 2013 (9:00 AM, ET) on the CBS Television Network. Get a sneak peek below!

Musgraves, 24, who has been praised by critics as an artist whose blunt lyrics about small-town life and love stand out in the traditionally conservative country music world, tells Mason she would like to change the Perception of what country music really is today.

"I do think people like Taylor Swift have opened our genre up to people who wouldn't necessarily ever listen to country," Musgraves tells Mason. "And it's made it, in a sense, more cool. So I do think there's an influx of a little bit of change. But I want there to be more."

By more, she says, she wants "a widened acceptance" of subject matter. She's hoping for "the realization that you don't have to sing about trucks and tailgates to be a country artist," she tells Mason.

In a wide-ranging interview, Musgraves talks about how she got her start writing songs, how her record label has responded to her music, and performing as a child at the Beckham Hotel in Mineola, Texas. Musgraves has been nominated for four ACM Awards, including nods for New Female Vocalist of the Year and Female Vocalist of the Year.

Mason's interview with Musgraves will be broadcast on CBS SUNDAY MORNING. Rand Morrison is the executive producer.
