Whoopi Goldberg to Guest Star on ABC's THE MIDDLE

As first reported on TVline.com, Broadway veteran Whoopi Goldberg will be making a guest star appearance on the ABC comedy THE MIDDLE. The news was announced at the Television Critics Association winter press tour on Tuesday. Goldberg, who can currently be seen daily as host of ABC's daytime talkfest 'The View', will play the role of Sue's guidance counselor on the ABC comedy. The episode will air toward the end of the current season.

Whoopi Goldberg is the producer of Broadway's Sister Act which was the recipient of 5 Tony nomintions including a nod for Best Musical. Goldberg starred in the original film of Sister Act, and has appeared on Broadway herself in Ma Rainey's Black Bottom, Xanadu, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and two self-titled solo shows.

THE MIDDLE stars Patricia Heaton as Frankie, Neil Flynn as Mike, Charlie McDermott as Axl, Eden Sher as Sue and Atticus Shaffer as Brick. The single-camera comedy tells the story of a middle class couple trying to raise a family while lowering their expectations.
