Alicia Keys performed a soulful and emotionally moving version of her song "Holy War" from her critically-acclaimed sixth new studio album "HERE" on the live show of THE VOICE on NBC last night. You can watch the performance here
With fellow Voice judge Adam Levine on guitar, she began the performance with an a cappella version of the chorus of her new single "Blended Family (What You Do For Love)" and then moved into "Holy War." With the results of the recent election, Alicia's song "Holy War" exemplifies the sentiment of so many. The song is a battle cry, reminding people to exercise their rights and raise their voice against the deeply decisive rhetoric we have heard over the last year. The lyrics speak to the need to understand each other and underscores the importance of choosing love and compassion over hate. MTV says, "Alicia Key's 'Holy War' is the empowering anthem we need right now" and OkayPlayer says "Holy War" underscores "societal inconsistencies in a powerful acoustically-driven ballad aimed at the heart, and like so many of 2016's musical offerings, is poised to heal it." NME captures the sentiment of "Holy War" saying it is a "heartfelt plea for tolerance and equality in a world Keys describes as 'divided by difference, sexuality and skin.'About Alicia Keys: Alicia Keys is a 15-time Grammy® Award-winning singer/songwriter/producer, an accomplished actress, a New York Times best-selling author, an entrepreneur and a powerful force in the world of humanitarianism and activism.
