INGENIOUS is an independent film shot in Tucson, Arizona, the landscape for a loving portrait, an American story about three people who over come hard times with friendship, hope and humor. "Ingenious" features three young stars: all "actor's actors": two-time Academy Award nominee Jeremy Renner(" The Hurt Locker", "The Bourne Legacy" Dallas Roberts "Walk The Line", "The Grey" and Ayelet Zurer "Munich", "Man Of Steel"
Directed by Jeff Balsmeyer whose first feature, "Danny Deckchair", was the closing night film at the Toronto Film Festival and opened to rave reviews.
Matt (played by Dallas Roberts) is a small-time inventor living on The Edge of the Tucson desert who keeps coming up with clever but impractical product ideas. Gina, (Ayelet Zurer) Matt's wife, is a flight attendant picking up extra trips to help sustain Matt's struggling business. Gina leaves Matt after discovering he has gambled away their savings in an attempt to make a quick buck. Matt and his best friend Sam (Jeremy Renner) are determined to come up with a product that will save their business, friendship, and Matt's marriage.
In order to save his marriage, Matt has to reinvent himself. His path to redemption is full of obstacles: a gambling habit, selfishness, and a something-for-nothing approach to life. Out of the blue, Matt gets the idea he's been waiting on. The Big Idea sets in motion a series of Sam's money-raising schemes to finance the American dream. One simple product that changes everything!
"Ingenious" is a celebration of American ingenuity, the workaday, bread and butter realm of the American middle class. This is a film that really means something in today's touch economic times and has a strong personal message. It is a message about faith: a dogged, relentless faith that tells you, against all odds and against all better advice, that sometimes it's worth going the distance.
