At this week's premiere of the new film INFERNO, star Tom Hanks and director Ron Howard discussed the recently announced remake of their 1984 romantic comedy SPLASH, which will feature a new twist - actor Channing Tatum starring as a merman.

On the read carpet, Hanks told the Associated Press he'd be interested in being in the film and suggested an even bolder twist, offering "If they're going to really be bold, I would come back as Alan Bauer and I would go off with Channing Tatum. That would be a bold movie!" Watch the interview in full below, courtesy of USA Today.

The 1984 fantasy romantic comedy SPLASH was directed by Ron Howard, written by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel, and starred Tom Hanks, Daryl Hannah, John Candy, Eugene Levy, and Dody Goodman. The film involved a young man who falls in love with a mysterious woman who is secretly a mermaid. The film was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay.
