Alek Skarlotos, one of three U.S. Marines who prevented a mass shooting on a train in France this summer appeared on today's ELLEN, along with his DANCING WITH THE STARS partner LINDSAY Arnold.

The hero revealed that he was enrolled at Umpqua Community College where yesterday, a mass shooting left over 10 people dead. Skarlotos believes that if he was not a contestant on the ABC dance competition at the time of the shooting, he would most likely have been involved in the tragic event.

"I had classes in Snyder Hall," Skarlotos told DeGeneres. "I mean, it's a fairly small Community College and just the town in general everybody knows each other so with that many deceased I mean everybody's going to know at least one person ... I mean I would have been there today if I didn't agree to do this show. I had classes picked out and everything."
