Director Richard Linklater's new film BOYHOOD will hit select theaters on July 11th before opening nationwide on July 18th.

Starring newcomer Ellar Coltrane and Ethan Hawke, the film tells a story of a divorced couple, Mason and Olivia, trying to raise their young son, Mason Jr. The story follows the boy for twelve years, from first grade at age 6 through twelfth grade at age 18, and examines his relationship with his parents as he grows.

"We had to create a character as seen through the eyes of a 7-, 8-, 9- and 10-year old," Hawke said of his role on this morning's TODAY on NBC. "So you watch ... our characters change through (his) eyes."

"It was kind of an art camp," added Coltrane. "I didn't have a lot of commitments growing up, so it was kind of like something to go back to and kind of be invested in, definitely. It kind of set a pace to get to work with these guys. They have quite a method."
