UPDATE: Harrison Ford Undergoes Surgery on Left Leg; 'Doing Well' Confirms Rep
As BWW reported last week, Harrison Ford was injured on the set of Disney and LucasFilm's highly anticipated STAR WARS: EPISODE VII. According to Disney, the actor was hospitalized in London following an injury which occured during filming when a door fell on him.
At the time it was reported that the actor had inured his ankle, but today, the BBC confirms with Ford's publicist that Ford actually broke his left leg. "His surgery was successful and he will begin rehab shortly," the publicist said in a statement. "He's doing well and looks forward to returning to work."
It has also been reported that Ford will miss an estimated eight weeks of production on the film, though it won't affect the release of the highly-anticipated film.
Ford joins the returning Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew and Kenny Baker for the new film alongside new additions John Boyega, Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson, Lupita Nyong'o, Gwendoline Christie and Max von Sydow.
Star Wars: Episode VII is being directed by J.J. Abrams from a script he co-wrote with Lawrence Kasdan. It will open in wide release on December 18, 2015.
