Tribeca Film Festival Announces Prize Named for Nora Ephron

The Tribeca Film Festival has announced that they will launch a new annual award to honor the late playwright Nora Ephron, according to Variety. The award, to be called 'The Nora Ephron Prize', will award a monetary prize of $25,000 and will be given for The First Time during the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival.

The recipient will be someone who is considered "a filmmaker with a distinctive voice who best embodies the spirit of Ephron", and will be chosen yearly from among eligible filmmakers who have a current movie in North American, International or world preem in the Tribeca festival.

The award will be presented by festival co-founder Jane Rosenthal and Sally Singer, creative digital director of award sponsor Vogue.com, during the festival's Women's Filmmaker Brunch April 25.

Playwright and filmmaker Nora Ephron passed away on June 26, 2012. She was 71. She is well known for her films When Harry Met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, You've Go Mail and more recently, Julie & Julia. For the stage, Ephron has written Short Talks on the Universe, the Drama Desk Award-winning Love, Loss, and What I Wore and Imaginary Friends. Her play Lucky Guy, starring Tom Hanks is currently playing on Broadway and centers on the life of the late New York Post and Daily News columnist Mike McAlary.
