Deadline writes that Tony nominee Thomas Sadoski has joined the cast of NBC's new miniseries THE SLAP from playwright Jon Robin Baitz.

Sadoski joins Thandie Newton, Melissa George, Peter Sarsgaard, Mary-Louise Parker, Zachary Quinto, and Brian Cox in the cast.

The series "centers on the fallout after a man slaps another couple's misbehaving child at a family barbeque. This small event sparks a massive family dispute that exposes secrets, prompts a lawsuit and tears the family apart."

Sadoski will play Gary, who is described as "something of a hippie, husband to Rosie (Melissa George) and father to Hugo."

When Gary is "Cajoled by his wife into attending Hector's birthday party", he "quickly gets irritated when talk turns to getting into the right preschool and 'getting ahead.' Fueled by too many beers, he gets into a heated discussion with Harry, ready to press charges when Harry slaps his son."

From writer Jon Robin Baitz ("Brothers & Sisters"), Executive Producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald ("Gladiator," "Men in Black" franchise) and Director Lisa Cholodenko ("The Kids Are All Right"), comes this unflinching look at how one little slap... can have a huge impact.

Sadoski was nominated for a 2009 Tony Award for his performance in reasons to be pretty. Among his other Broadway credits are Other Desert Cities (penned by THE SLAP writer Baitz), The House of Blue Leaves and Reckless. Sadoski has appeared in the TV series Ugly Betty, The Newsroom and Law & Order: SVU. His upcoming big screen projects include Wild, Take Care, The Dramatics, I Smile Back and Lemonade.
