Deadline.com reports that Tony Award winning actress Mercedes Ruehl has joined the cast of the upcoming Fox comedy pilot EL JEFE. The actress will join previously announced cast members Ryan Hansen, Jessica Camacho and Victor Rasuk on the project from writers David Guarascio & Moses Port and Sony TV. Ruehl appeared as a series regular on the recently cancelled HBO series 'Luck'.

EL JEFE tells the story of "the affable but lost upper-class 30-year-old Josh (Hansen) who, tossed out of his Brentwood home, moves in with his adoring longtime Latina nanny Delmi (Ruehl), a vibrant woman and a real life force of sturdy peasant stock.”

Mercedes Ruehl won the 1984 Obie Award for her performance in The Marriage of Bette and Boo and twenty years later, an Obie for Woman Before a Glass. She also received a 1991 Tony Award as Best Actress (Play) for Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers. In 2008, Ruehl returned to the Broadway stage in Manhattan Theater Club's production of Richard Greenberg's The American Plan playing the role of Eva Adler.
