TV's Dr. Ana Maria Polo to Be Honored at 2016 PREMIOS TU MUNDO Live on Telemundo

TELEMUNDO will honor Dr. Ana Maria Polo, one of the most prominent and influential figures in Hispanic TV, with the special award "Estrella de Tu Mundo" (Star of Your World) in celebration of her 15 years on television during the 2016 PREMIOS TU MUNDO (Your World Awards) to be broadcast live Thursday, August 25th, at 8PM/7c from the American Airlines Arena in Miami, Florida. Fans will also have the opportunity to meet Dra. Polo this Thursday, August 4 at 3pm/2c through a Facebook Live chat at https://www.facebook.com/PremiosTuMundo.

Dr. Ana Maria Polo's name exemplifies commitment and support for the Hispanic community. Her powerful and distinct personality has also made her a spokesperson and a defendant of important issues, such as the fight against cancer, domestic violence and discrimination against minorities. With more than 20 years of experience as a lawyer, Dra Polo was introduced to television audiences in 2001 on TELEMUNDO's program "Sala de Parejas" (Couple's Court), where she quickly conquered the hearts of viewers. In 2005 "Sala de Parejas" became "Caso Cerrado con la Dra. Ana Maria Polo" (Case Closed with Dra. Ana María Polo) (M-F 3PM/2c), a program that highlights lawsuits and legal situations. In 2010 "Caso Cerrado con la Dra. Ana María Polo" became the first Spanish language show nominated for a Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Award, and currently ranks as the number one Spanish-language program in the afternoon time slot. The great success garnered by "Caso Cerrado" motivated Telemundo to bet once again on Polo's talent and launched "Caso Cerrado Edición Estelar" (Case Closed Primetime Edition) (M-F 7PM/6c). In addition to hosting the show, Polo also composed and interprets the theme song of the program.

Dra. Ana Maria Polo received the prestigious Mickey Leland Humanitarian Achievement Award in 2011, honoring individuals and organizations affiliated with the communications industry that demonstrate a humanitarian commitment. This was the first time this acknowledgement was given to a Hispanic personality by NAMIC (National Association for Multi-ethnicity in Communications). Dra. Ana Maria Polo is the first Hispanic ambassador for Stand Up To Cancer, joining an esteemed list of national and international celebrity supporters of this global initiative that raises awareness and funds for collaborative cancer research. As a breast cancer SURVIVOR she had also dedicated her time and collaboration to support the Susan G Komen foundation by sharing her personal experience with the disease and participating in numerous racing events throughout the country.

"Premios Tu Mundo," which celebrates its fifth anniversary this year, combines the power of television, web, mobile and social media platforms to give fans the final say in everything that moves and inspires them.Fans will select their favorite actors, musical artists, TV personalities, fan clubs and influencers from 30 competing categories, making the winners a true reflection of the people's choice. Nominees at "Premios Tu Mundo" include Rafael Amaya, the star of "El Señor de los Cielos," who leads all acting categories with four nominations. Blanca Soto and Rodrigo Guirao, from "Señora Acero,"Gabriel Porras, from "Bajo El Mismo Cielo," and Ludwika Paleta, from "La Querida Del Centauro," have three nominations each. Top music nominees, in the categories of regional mexican, pop, tropical and urban genres, include Daddy Yankee with three nominations, followed by two-time nominees Chino y Nacho, Gente de Zona, Nicky Jam and Prince Royce. "Premios Tu Mundo" nominees were selected by a panel of industry professionals, and the diverse list of categories for the popular special includes: The Perfect Couple, Best Villain, I'm Sexy and I Know It, Fan Club of the Year and Favorite Influencer, among others. The highly anticipated awards show will feature performances by Farruko, Sin Bandera, Reik and Regulo Caro, among other musical acts yet to be announced.
