It's now the third week for the new reboot of THE ODD COUPLE, and after surfing around the web a little, it seems that the ratings have been looking pretty solid. Looks like Oscar and Felix are here to stay (well, at least for now)! Last week, Geoff Stults guest starred, adding some hilarious scenes with Perry and Lenon. This week, it's Felix's birthday! However, it totally slips Oscar's mind so he pulls together a last minute surprise party. While this plot line has been used in past shows including THE MARY TYLER MOORE SHOW, FRASIER, and I'm sure a few others, it should be a pretty funny episode. Plus, Dwight Howard (#12 for the Rockets) guest stars, which is pretty exciting considering I'm from Houston!

This week's episode started with the addition of a new character, Casey played by Leslie Bibb (IRON MAN, ABOUT A BOY). At first I thought it was Elizabeth Berkley from SAVED BY THE BELL, but I was wrong. Oscar asks her for another date, but she says she needs to sleep off her jetlag. Oscar then convinces her by telling her that sleep is the worst thing for jetlag and that she needs to do some sort of exercise...indoors...with a partner.

Felix is back in the apartment cleaning his vacuum cleaner. He's more of a neatfreak than Danny Tanner was on FULL HOUSE. Felix admits it's his birthday and also happens to be the anniversary of the day he met his wife, Ashley. It's a pretty cute story involving a roller-rink - so 80's! Even though he and his wife aren't talking, Felix still wonders if she'll show up at the rink this year. Casey scolds Oscar for being so mean, but he tells her he's throwing Felix a surprise birthday party...which he's clearly throwing to impress her. Felix overhears but promises to act surprised.

Oscar calls in the troops - Teddy, Roy and Dani - to help him plan the party. He only needs a few things...or the entire party. Luckily, Felix will be out of the apartment the entire day because he's at The Container Store where the only thing they can't contain is his enthusiasm. I don't blame him, that place is the best! Oscar throws a decent party together, which includes the guy who plays violin on the subway and Felix's favorite waitress from the deli. Emily shows up at the party and we learn that Casey is her sister, and will be stopping by later. Teddy arrives at the party but says he can't stay because he's hosting a sleepover for his daughter, but Oscar convinces him to bring them in because he needs bodies to fill out the party. Finally Felix comes home and does a hilarious job of acting surprised, and is confused because he doesn't know some of the people. Oscar then tells Felix he has a surprise for him...it's Dwight Howard from the Rockets! I don't know why they have him on this episode because he says one thing and then leaves, but whatever. Turns out Dwight lost a bet with Oscar over Beyonce knowledge.

Casey finally shows up and Oscar brags about how great he is for throwing the party. Everyone then gathers around Felix as he opens gifts. The first thing he gets is some fancy vacuum cleaner (which I won't even try to spell) from Emily, Casey and sort of Oscar. He then opens Dani's gift, which is a beautiful bird who Felix names Hope. Casey and Oscar then go over to her apartment to "have a drink." Felix and his old friend Jim do some impromptu singing but then Jim brings up Ashley putting a damper on Felix's good mood. To make it worse, Emily plugs in the vacuum cleaner and sucks Hope right up then shoots her out the window. Roy makes a hilarious comment that "hope is gone...for a brief moment you had hope, but no more."

Felix sits down with Teddy's daughter and her friends lamenting about love and they tell him that a prince doesn't let a princess get away. Oscar and Casey are hooking up when Emily bursts in saying that Felix left the party and no one knows where he is. Oscar knows exactly where he is...the roller-rink. Oscar can't go onto the rink without skates so a hilarious bit where Oscar can't quite stand up ensues. Felix refuses to leave until they close because he's still hoping Ashley shows up. They then both sit on the ground and have a beautiful heart to heart, which has been one of the best moments of the show so far. Ashley ends up texting Felix, ending the episode on a bittersweet note.
