CBS THIS MORNING co-host CHARLIE ROSE interviews Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in Damascus for a 60 MINUTES report to be broadcast Sunday, March 29 (7:00-8:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Excerpts of the interview will be broadcast beginning tonight, March 26 on the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH SCOTT PELLEY. Additional excerpts will be broadcast tomorrow, March 27 on CBS THIS MORNING (7:00-9:00 AM). The interview in its entirety will then be shown on "Charlie Rose" on PBS television stations Monday, March 30.

Rose traveled to Damascus, Syria, where he spoke with the Syrian leader earlier today. The interview comes nearly a week after Secretary of State John Kerry told CBS News that the United States is open to negotiating with Assad in order to broker peace for the war-torn nation.

This is Assad's second sit-down interview with Rose. The first interview took place in September 2013 and won Rose and CBS THIS MORNING a Peabody Award, electronic media's oldest and most prestigious award.
