Superman Hits New Heights; MAN OF STEEL Soars with $151 Million in Worldwide Sales

Superman has hit unprecendented heights.

Zack Synder's MAN OF STEEL took over the wordlwide box office this weekend, grossing $151 internationally, and just over $113 million in the U.S. alone. Its domestic total rests at $125 million if the Thursday night's advanced sales - an additional $12 million - are counted.

Studio analysts upped their initial estimates for STEEL, this weekend, having initially expected the film to pull in approximately $120 million. On Saturday, STEEL was expected to soar towards a solid sum of $134 million for the four day weekend (Thursday night - Sunday) - ultimately, it fell slightly short, but it hasn't prevented Warner Bros. from granting Synder a Superman sequel.

The action adventure stars Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner,Diane Lane, Laurence Fishburne, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, Russell Crowe, Michael Kelly, Harry Lennix and Richard Schiff.

In the film, a young boy learns that he has extraordinary powers and is not of this Earth. As a young man, he journeys to discover where he came from and what he was sent here to do. But the hero in him must emerge if he is to save the world from annihilation and become the symbol of hope for all mankind.
