Digital Book World 2013 will be exploring a vital topic today, addressing a key question for publishers-how much should they rely on startups and other industry outsiders to transform or reinvent the publishing industry? This comes after a wave of startups have emerged over the past few years that are promising to revolutionize the business.

Peter Evans , CEO of Speakerfile, takes the stage at Digital Book World 2013 along with fellow panelists Dominique Raccah , CEO and Publisher of Sourcebooks, and Michael Cader , Founder of Publishers Lunch, Publishers Marketplace, and the new Bookateria. Rick Joyce , Chief Marketing Officer of The Perseus Books Group, will be moderating this diverse panel on Driving Innovation in Publishing. Representing a range of viewpoints from publishing to technology startups, the speakers will discuss the quest for the "New New Thing" in books and who should lead the coming revolution.

"Publishing is moving beyond the book. We are entering a world where everyone can be a publisher, which presents challenges to existing players in the industry," said Peter Evans. "Speakerfile is playing a critical role in the discussion about how authors can be discovered and connected to a massive marketplace of conference engagements and media source opportunities. Many publishers are now seeing a book as just one element of an author's overall thought leadership."

Speakerfile is not alone in their view of the changing publishing model. With over 6,000 experts and authors on the platform with expertise on over 12,000 topics, clients across a range of industries as diverse as healthcare, IT, professional services and industry associations all use Speakerfile to publish content related to their experts and authors.
"A year ago, when I met Peter Evans of Speakerfile at Digital Book World 2012, I was impressed with the company's software platform and the way it connects author experts and thought leaders-with their publishers and agents alongside them-to conference organizers and meeting planners. Events and media are eager to find the best possible speakers to inform and engage their audiences and Speakerfile is great at helping make these connections," said Philip Turner, New York-based publishing executive.

"After working the Speakerfile team for the past year, and seeing the publishing clients I've introduced to Speakerfile find an abundance of new speaking engagements for their authors, I am more convinced than ever that Speakerfile is becoming a dynamic engine of discoverability for publishers, bringing authors and their books together with motivated audiences." A publishing industry veteran, Turner has held a number of senior positions with publishers in New York City over the past 25 years, acquiring, editing, and publishing many notable titles including the first paperback edition of Barack Obama 's Dreams From My Father, and Ambassador Joseph Wilson 's The Politics of Truth: Inside the Lies that Led to War and Betrayed My Wife's CIA Identity. He operates Philip Turner Book Productions and produces the popular blog, The Great Gray Bridge, while also working with Speakerfile as their representative to the publishing industry.
