According to Deadline, Showtime has given HAPPYISH, starring Steve Coogan and Bradley Whitford, a series order today. The network has also opted to renew its hit series SHAMELESS for a sixth season.

HAPPYISH is a scathing examination of our pursuit of happiness, a pursuit that might just be the very thing causing our unhappiness in the first place. The new half-hour pilot will be filmed in New York next month, with Oscar and Golden Globe nominee Steve Coogan (Philomena, Alan Partridge), acclaimed actress Kathryn Hahn (Revolutionary Road, We're The Millers) and Emmy Award winner and Golden Globe nominee Bradley Whitford (The West Wing) previously announced to star.

HAPPYISH was created, written and executive produced by critically acclaimed author and regular This American Life contributor Shalom Auslander. Emmy Award nominee Ken Kwapis (He's Just Not That Into You, A Walk In The Woods) will executive produce and direct the pilot. Kwapis' producing partner Alexandra Beattie will co-executive produce, under their In Cahoots banner.

Oscar®-nominated William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum star in this fiercely engaging and fearlessly twisted series. Chicagoan Frank Gallagher is the proud single dad of six smart, industrious, independent kids, who without him would be...perhaps better off.

When Frank's not at the bar spending what little money they have, he's passed out on the floor. But the kids have found ways to grow up in spite of him. They may not be like any family you know, but they make no apologies for being exactly who they are.
