Shonda Rhimes to Develop Nun-Themed Drama Series for ABC

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Shonda Rhimes and Betsy Beers' ABC Studios-based production company will develop a currently untitled drama series centering on a convent in the Bronx. Rhimes and Beers will also executive produce

The site reports that the drama, to be penned by 'Brothers and Sisters scribe Alison Schapker, will follow "a group of Catholic nuns fighting the closure of their Bronx-based convent who must suddenly deal with three young novices whose arrival unearths long-buried secrets. The ensemble drama will throw into question everything you think you know about the "Brides of Christ."

Rhimes comapny previously sold a development deal to ABC for the divorce-themed comedy Splitsville. The 'Scandal' writer will team with Emily Halpern and Sarah Haskins on the upcoming project.
