NBC's "Dateline" will air The Rescue of Hannah Anderson, a comprehensive look at the kidnapping of 16-year-old Hannah Anderson. "Dateline's" one hour report will include more from Anderson's first television interview with NBC News about her harrowing seven-day ordeal, new details on the multi-state manhunt and dramatic rescue operation, and insight into Jim DiMaggio's past. The Rescue of Hannah Anderson will air tonight, Friday August 23 as the second half of "Dateline's" two hour block beginning at 9pm/8c.
Danielle Freeman, a friend and high school classmate of DiMaggio's, shares details about her disturbing history with Jim DiMaggio Sr., DiMaggio's father, when she was Hannah Anderson's age. More than two decades ago, Freeman was terrorized at gunpoint by his father and says: "I thought for sure he was going to kill my brother. And my boyfriend ... he would have killed us all."
In addition, horseback riders Mark and Christa John and Mike and Mary Young describe their chance encounter with Anderson and DiMaggio in the Idaho wilderness. U.S. Marshal Steve Jurman, San Diego Sheriff Bill Gore, and Cascade task force spokesperson Andrea Dearden provide details about the dramatic rescue operation that brought Hannah home - including the very moment rescuers made their move and the deadly confrontation in the mountains. Sheriff Gore tells "Dateline": "There's no doubt in our mind she was a victim."
