School News Nationwide, a New-York based organization dedicated to developing skills and teaching tolerance to New York City public school students presents a showing of the stirring 2009 movie "Defiance," starring Daniel Craig (popular English actor featured as James Bond) and Liev Schreiber, written, produced and directed by Edward Zwick.

School News Nationwide (SNN) previously announced two guest speakers: Zvi Bielski, son of resistance leader Zus, and Sally Frishberg, a survivor from Poland.

The movie is based on Nechama Tec's stirring book "Defiance: The Bielski Partisans," relating the true story of the four Bielski brothers, Tuvia, Zus, Asael and Aron. In 1941, as Nazi forces swept through Eastern Europe, the Jewish brothers succeeded in escaping the slaughter by the Germans in their town of Belarus, during which their parents were among the victims. They hid in the forests to survive, also taking on the responsibility of looking after a large and ever-growing mass of fleeing Polish Jews from the German war machine. Their heroic efforts of finding food and weapons in these unforgiving surroundings resulted in the saving over a thousand lives.

SNN, founded and directed by Bill Tingling, partners with Holocaust Museums, public schools, universities, local police precincts, and other organizations to help youngsters become productive, constructive members of society. The program nurtures active learning with after-school classes in journalism, investigative reporting and interviewing, television and video, and other outlets that offer students a chance to learn and excel. The showing of "Defiance" is part of SNN's highly praised "Words of Bonds" Holocaust Tolerance program.
