Released on June 8, 2012, Ridley Scott's Prometheus only delivered a $126 million dollar US gross, on a production budget of $130 million, but a foreign gross of $276 million has brought it up to $400 million and it's reported to have done well on home video sales too.

All that has apparently led to progress on a sequel with Scott telling the press today (while promoting his current film, The Counsellor) that "Prometheus is being written right now. Number two."

Noomi Rapace, who starred in the first movie, claimed she had met with the film-maker, telling the Playlist earlier this year: 'They're working on the script, [and] I met Ridley in London a couple of weeks ago.'

The first filmed starred Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Patrick Wilson, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Noomi Rapace, Ben Foster, Kate Dickie, Logan Marshall-Green, Sean Harris, Emun Elliot, Benedict Wong, Rafe Spall, James Payton, Vladimir 'Furdo' Furdik and Lance Henriksen.

In Prometheus, visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returned to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and Strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery.
