Photos: NEWSIES Meets the Press; Show Opens in Manila, 7/7 Manila, Philippines--Globe Live and 9 Works Theatrical are bringing the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical Disney's "Newsies" to Manila at the Globe Iconic Store Bonifacio High Street Amphitheater, Bonifacio Global City (BGC), on July 7-9, 14-16, 21-23, and 28-30, 2017 at 8:00 p.m.

The production's cast and production team, headed by Globe Live's Joe Caliro, 9 Works Theatrical's Santi Santamaria and Robbie Guevara, and cast members Gian Magdangal, Jef Flores, and Daniel Drilon, among others, met with the press yesterday, May 30, at the Ibiza Beach Club in BGC.

"Newsies" features a Tony Award-winning score, featuring the music by eight-time Academy Award winner Alan Menken and lyrics by Jack Feldman, and a book by four-time Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein.

Set in New York City at the turn of the century, "Newsies," inspired by the real-life "Newsboy Strike of 1899," is the rousing tale of Jack Kelly, a charismatic newsboy and leader of a ragged band of teenaged "newsies," who dreams only of a better life far from the hardship of the streets. But when publishing titans Joseph Pulitzer and William Randolph Hearst raise distribution prices at the newsboys' expense, Jack finds a cause to fight for and rallies Newsies from across the city to strike for what's right.

Playing Jack is recording artist, singer, and actor Gian Magdangal. Joining him as part of the newsboys are Jef Flores, Daniel Drilon, Tory Cortez , Luis Marcelo, and Alex Diaz. Also in the cast are Danielle Chopin, Greg Dulcie, Pinky Marquez, Raymund Concepcion, Franz Imperial, Ariel Reonal, Joni Galeste, Melissa Bell, Ian Ocampo, Ronelson Yadao, Erick Arenas, Jourdan Bartolome, Mark Anthony Grantos, Jim Ferrer, Chesko Rodriguez, Kendrick Ibasco, Anton Posadas, Stephen Viñas, Clark dela Riva, Jon Abella, MC dela Cruz, Vyen Villanueva, and Jan Mayo.

This production of "Newsies" is directed by Robbie Guevara, together with PJ Rebullida as choreographer; Franz Imperial as assistant director; Daniel Bartolome as musical director; Yek Barlongay--additional choreography for tap; Ed Lacson as set designer; Eric Pineda as costume designer; Martin Esteva as lighting designer; GA Fallarme as video and projection designer; Myrene Santos as hair and makeup designer, and Dong Calingacion as technical director.
