The screenplay is about a small-town boy who makes friends with a drifter who might be able to communicate with the dead.

Schulman, Anthony Bregman, Stefanie Azpiazu, Adam Stone and Emily Ziff will produce.

Hoffman's most recent project, The Master, has already met with success at the Venice Film Festival and in its limited run this weekend. The actor will soon appear later this fall in A Late Quartet, and is in filming for the second installment of The Hunger Games trilogy, "The Hunger Games: Catching Fire". Hoffman directed one other feature film, Jack Goes Boating, in 2010.

On Broadway, Hoffman has taken the stage in this year's Death of a Salesman, as well as 2003's Long Day's Journey Into Night and 2000's True West. His Off-Broadway credits include Jack Goes Boating, The Seagull, The Author's Voice & Imagining Brad, Shopping and fing, Defying Gravity, The Skriker and more. He has also directed for Off-Broadway's The Little Flower of East Orange, The Last Days of Judas Iscariot, Our Lady of 121st Street, The Glory of Living and Jesus Hopped the A Train.
