Oliver Platt Boards NBC's CHICAGO MED Pilot

According to Deadline, Oliver Platt is the latest actor to join the cast of NBC's upcoming CHICAGO FIRE spin-off CHICAGO MED.

Platt will take on the role of the highly intelligent head of psychiatry, Dr. Daniel Charles."

Platt joins Yaya DaCosta, who starred in Lifetime's Whitney Houston biopic, stage veteran S. Epatha Merkerson, and THE WALKING DEAD's Laurie Holden.

CHICAGO MED is a planted pilot, which will air as part of CHICAGO FIRE's current season (in the 19th episode). CHICAGO FIRE creators/executive producers Derek Haas and Michael Brandt are also writing CHICAGO MED, with executive producers Matt Olmstead and Wolf.

Merkerson starred as 'Lt. Anita Van Buren' in Law & Order for nearly a decade. Since then, she has appeared in the movie Lincoln and the TV series The Good Wife, DECEPTION and more. The actress will next be seen on the big screen in Sexual Healing and The Challenger.

Two-time Tony nominee Merkerson last appeared on Broadway in Come Back, Little Sheba, and before that in The Piano Lesson. She most recently starred off-Broadway in While I Yet Live and has also appeared onstage in Birdie Blue, fing A, Three Ways Home, Balm in Gilead and The Harvesting.

Platt's Broadway credits include Shining City and Guys and Dolls. He is well known for his film and TV career, including roles in "Fargo," "The Big C" and "The West Wing." He was recently seen on the big screen in the new comedy 'Chef.'
