According to Variety, Jenji Kohen's hit Netflix comedy ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK will officially compete in the comedy category for this year's SAG Awards and Golden Globes. Last year, OITNB was submitted as a drama for the two, where series lead Taylor Schilling earned a nomination at the Globes - the show's only one.

When submitted in the Comedy category at the Emmys, OITNB nabbed 12 nominations.

Per the report: "While the category switch from drama to comedy in the Golden Globes race was an easy one, per the Hollywood Foreign Press, the Screen Actors Guild rules require a bit more navigation. "A petition to do so was considered by the SAG Awards Committee and approved," said a SAG spokesperson."

Last year, "Orange is the New Black" garnered an AFI honor for being one of their top 10 TV programs of 2013 and is a recipient of a Peabody Award and GLAAD Media Award. It recently received a Television Critics' Association (TCA) Award for Outstanding New Program, and was recognized with three Critic's Choice Television Awards for "Best Comedy Series," "Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series" for Kate Mulgrew, and "Best Guest Performance in a Comedy" for Uzo Aduba.

"Orange is the New Black" is the hit series from creator and executive producer Jenji Kohan ("Weeds") that follows a diverse group of inmates serving time in a women's prison. Alternating between hilarious and heartbreaking, the hour-long series stars Taylor Schilling as Piper Chapman, whose decade-old relationship with drug-runner Alex (Laura Prepon) results in her arrest and detention in a federal penitentiary. While serving time, she is forced to question everything she believes and form unexpected new alliances with a group of eccentric and outspoken inmates. The series' ensemble also includes Jason Biggs, Kate Mulgrew, Natasha Lyonne, Uzo Aduba, Pablo Schreiber, Danielle Brooks, Laverne Cox and Taryn Manning.

The series is based on the best-selling memoir of the same name by Piper Kerman. "Orange is the New Black" is executive produced by Kohan and produced by Lionsgate Television for Netflix.
